The recent spate of attacks against women in India has increased the need for women to be aware of basic self-defense techniques that they can use in a potential hostile situation. A good self-defense class focuses on awareness around potential dangerous situations as well as focuses on basic techniques that women can use in case such a situation arises. A typical workshop is organized as outlined below:

Start with strength training: The workshops start with some essential fitness, strength and flexibility exercises.
Teach basic self-defense techniques: We then teach all the participants basic punching, blocking, sparring and kicking techniques that they can apply to a hostile situation. As women could be dressed in different attire (example sarees, salwar kameez, jeans) when a hostile situation arises, we also teach our participants the most effective technique for the attire that they are dressed in.
Apply learnt techniques to mock situations: In the last hour of the class, students apply the learnt techniques to mock situations. We group students into batches of two and have them practice the techniques learnt under the guidance of our instructors.
