I invest most of my time on planning, when I start a project. When the plan is perfect execution would be simpler.

Next big thing is managing the resources. Resource management is something which most organizations are stressing and investing on, a lot. Since resources play a major part in any project and every employee of an organization is its resource, steps must be taken to maintain and develop the resources and use them effectively.

Yet another aspect I would like to discuss is the tools required and budgeting for the same. I had seen several project managers spending more than 50% of their funds on tools, most of which doesn't yield back or support the project majorly. Many PM's just rely on tools for management, which is a wrong strategy.

Being a PM, I use few tools to keep myself organized and automated in few aspects. They are for time management, task management, expense management, etc. And mostly I try to use one tool for all these and I currently use Replicon for all the above tasks. So, PM's can try reducing their spend on tools and invest it on things that are of higher priority. «less
