The man asked for money, threatened her by showing a country pistol and when refused by the lady, attacked her head with a 10 inch machete and left the woman bleeding profusely. The lady was shifted to a hospital and after a long surgery was reported to have been paralysed on her right side. The Outlook It’s hard to believe that the ATM booth located quite close to a police station didn’t have any security guard. Any woman inside an ATM booth with an armed thug and the shutter down would almost have no chance of escape. The news sources mentioned that when the assaulter asked her to withdraw money, the lady argued and refused to do that. If that’s true, that wasn’t a wise move. In such circumstances it is more appropriate to do exactly as the armed man says - but then the assaulter initially had no visible arms. They were hidden in his bag. The only possibility in such a situation is to take out a stun gun/ retractable knife/ pepper spray from the bag and attack the assaulter. But what if you don’t have enough time to take out a weapon? source:independent.ie FAQ’s 1. What is the duration of the training? The workshop session lasts for 3 hours. We recommend this time frame to ensure that the participants can effectively learn and practice the techniques taught. 2. Is the training theoretical or practical? Our workshops are entirely practical. Each participant will learn and practice multiple self-defense techniques during the session with the instructors. 3. What are the things covered during the training? At a higher level, the session will start with some basic strength training exercises and then the participants will be taught about various self-defense techniques (like punching, kicking, blocking). We also focus on attire specific techniques: with respect to different attire that the women might be wearing when the attacker shows up. In the last hour, all participants practice the techniques taught in mock situations in small groups. Mock situations include circumstances like safety while travelling in a cab, travelling with a child, with respect to what a woman might be carrying (e.g. handbag, ID card, keys) and of course attire specific. Physical demonstrations are also included as part of the course. 4. How many trainers will be there to give training? The number of trainers will depend on the class size (or the number of participants). Like, for around 40 participants, there will be around 5 instructors to ensure that every participant gets individual attention. For a larger number of participants, there will be more instructors. Some women trainers will also be there to facilitate a better learning experience. 5. Will you be providing the equipment required for the practical training? Yes. All the required equipment will be provided by us. 6. Are there any necessary things which you want us to arrange to conduct the training? We would need a hall/room which is big enough to conduct the training. The size of the hall/room will depend on the number of participants. We usually come and examine the hall/room before conducting the training to find out if any additional items are required. Having a mike in the training room will be helpful.
