UPSC Invites Application for Indian Economic Service

Union Public Service Commission invites application for IES (Indian Economy Service) and ISS (Indian Statistical Service) exam in 2015. It is a combined competitive examination for recruitment to Junior Time Scale to be conducted by the UPSC in accordance with the rules published by Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation in the Gazette of India dated 21-02-2015. How to Apply? Candidates can apply for Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination 2015 Online only at www.upsconline.nic.in. The online application process contains two parts: Registration for Part-I and Part-II started from 00:00 hours of 21-02-2015 to 23:59 hours of 20-03-2015. Applicants must register within the given time frame, applying outside the mentioned time would be treated as invalid. UPSC_4 Eligibility Criteria for IES-ISS Exam Nationality A candidate must be either- a)       A Citizen of India b)       A subject of Nepal c)       A subject of Bhutan d)       A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention to permanently settling in India. e)       A person from Indian origin who has migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Ethiopia, Vietnam and Zaire, with the intention of permanently staying in India. Candidates under the above category will need to produce a certificate of eligibility issued to him/her by the Government of India. Age a)       A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August, 2015 i.e. He/she must not have born earlier than 2nd August, 1985 and not later than 1st August, 1994. b)       Age relaxation are given to different categories as follows: 1)       A maximum of 5 years in case of SC/ST candidates 2)       A maximum of 3 years in case of OBC candidates 3)       Up to 5 years if a candidate had ordinarily domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period of 1st January, 1980 -- 31st December, 1989. 4)       Up to 3 years in case of Defence Services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof Educational Qualifications a) For the Indian Economic Service a candidate must have a post graduate degree in Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics/Econometrics from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutes established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as University under Section 3 of the University Grants commission Act, 1956 or a Foreign University approved by the Central Government from time to time. b) A candidate for the ISS (Indian Statistical Service) must have obtained a Bachelor's Degree with Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics as one of the subject or a Master's degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/ Applied Statistics from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other Educational Institutes established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as University under Section 3 of the University Grants commission Act, 1956 or a Foreign University approved by the Central government from time to time. No. of Vacancies Indian Economic Service                   06 Indian Statistical Service                    55 IES-ISS Examination Fees Candidates are required to pay a fee of INR 200 (Two hundred rupees only.) Female/SC/ST/PH candidates are exempted from paying examination fee. There is no fee exemption for females from OBC category, they need to pay the full prescribed fee. Candidates can deposit the fee in any SBI Branch by cash or by using net banking facility of SBI, State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur/State Bank of Travancore or by using Visa/Master Credit/Debit card. For those who are 'Paying by Cash' mode should print the system generated Pay-in-Slip during Part-II registration and deposit the fee at the counter of SBI branch on the next working day.   IES-ISS Exam Pattern 2015 The IES-ISS exam consists of two parts -- Part -- I and Part -- II. Part I is a written exam carrying a total of 1000 marks in the following 6 subjects for IES and ISS exam: A.      Indian Economic Service

Part II Viva voce of such candidates as may be called by the Commission, carrying a maximum of 200 marks. In the Viva voce candidates will be interviewed by a Board of competent and unbiased observers who will have before them a record of the candidate’s career. The interview will tests a candidate’s general and specialized knowledge and abilities. A candidate should have a good knowledge about the current happenings of the world. The board would pay special attention to assessing the intellectual curiosity, critical powers of assimilation, balance of judgment and alertness of mind, ability for social cohesion, integrity of character, capacity of leadership and initiation. Important Points to Note:
  1. The question papers in all the above mentioned subjects will be of Conventional (essay) type
  2. Questions would be in English language, so candidates need to answer in English only
  3. Candidates should write the exam in their own hand. Other than a visually impaired candidates, no other candidate can use a scribe. Visually impaired candidates will also be given 20 minutes extra for each hour.
IES-ISS Syllabus The standard of papers in General English and General Studies are of a Graduate level studying in Indian University. However, the standards of papers in other subjects would be of Master’s degree level in Indian University in the respective disciplines. Candidates would be expected to illustrate theory by facts and to analyze problems with the help of theory. They must be conversant with Indian problems in the field of Economics/Statistics. General English In this paper, a candidate will require to write an essay in English. There would be questions to check the level of understanding of English and workmanlike use of words. Passages will usually be set for precis or summary. General Studies Here a candidate’s awareness of general knowledge and current happenings would be judged. Candidates should have fair idea about Indian Polity including political system and Constitution of India, Geography and History of India without any special study. General Economics-I Part A
