Abacus technique for children for fast calculations

Abacus is a counting frame, used as a calculating tool. It is used for basic calculation such as addition, subtraction,  multiplication and division. The concept of Mental Arithmetic through image of Abacus was introduced in India in 1999 to train the children of the age group 5 years to 13 years in doing Mental Arithmetic by using Abacus tool. The tool that made revolution in countries like China,  Japan, Korea and other East Asian countries.  Abacus which enabled image based arithmetic computation possible, later got internalized in the mind of the child and with the mental Abacus ( imagined abacus) the child still did work on the mental abacus, which made the child do 6 -7 times faster than conventional method, of course with much practice.

We had in the year 2012 invented / developed the new generation Indian Abacus devices with children friendly features, advantages and benefits, which are state-of-the-art in design and features.  The Indian Abacus products are:

  1. Indian Abacus – Non-digital and Digital for students
  2. Indian Abacus – Non-digital Digital for Tutors / Teacher

The purpose of our efforts to develop the Indian Abacus was to make the learning of the skills by children – easier, faster and stress-free. As you would be aware, Abacus based calculations done using the physical abacus following the methodology & program syllabus together with methodical practice for a period of six 6 months enables the children to internalize the ‘Abacus and its sliders’ mentally and do the calculations – as a mind-math.  The speed at which the trained children do accurate calculations will be amazing, as it beats even the speed of calculations done using calculator.  The brain skills – high level concentration & memory through visualization & listening which are enhanced through this training using Indian Abacus, would be distinctly visible. Additionally the First ever the Indian Abacus projects color images when the sliders are moved during calculations – providing better stimulus, image registry and hence results in better visualization, easy & faster learning in a stress-free manner.  Both Kinesthetic and Visual learning are possible in the usage of the Indian Abacus. The tool is not only improving the children arithmetical calculations but also the overall brain developments skills. The need and the possibility through learning, practicing and mastering of image manipulation to do sums involving multiple digits and rows in seconds expose the unique CONCENTRATION skills of the children.

Impact of the Abacus based Mental Arithmetic learning

Impact of the Abacus based Mental Arithmetic learning  very insignificantly hits the children's basic education; hence the highly valuable benefits are going to be available to the base-of-the-pyramid population (school going children) more than anybody else, since the demand for the skills is more quantum from this segment.  The very encouraging factor here is that since the private and government schools are adopting the Abacus program as part of the school subjects, the reaching of the benefits of the program more. The Subject – Coaching in Abacus based calculations – is therefore highly relevant, important and urgent need for all the children as it is going to transform them totally, which means that our future generation will be better equipped with their brain skills – a primary requisite.

Today Abacus based calculation skills are known to most of the young parents, educationists, school managements and hence the market potential in an ideal situation is – every child is a student, which means that if there are 10% of the Indian population, say 12.5 crores, all the children are ideally eligible students of Abacus based calculation skills who could be enormously benefited out of the skills that they learn.  Since market in India itself is very high, scope is very huge and the impact if all inputs are properly lined up – in crores of children learning the skills not only in India but also other countries. The great positive impact that the children will be benefited from in terms of their Mathematical and Mental abilities will be something very big that we can achieve.
