Ballet is also called as the concert dance. Its origin goes back to 1400 where a dancer named Domenico di Piacenza, an Italian described such a dance called balleto. The name ballet has a French origin. Slowly the dance spread to France and Russia. Louis XIV in the 15th century encouraged and funded a lot for this ballet dance, as he himself was fond of it. By the 18th century the dance got its own unique status and was crowned as one of the classical dances. Many ballet groups arose by 19th century and attracted huge crowds in the auditoriums and performances halls. Although ballet dance had a downfall during 1830 in France but it got improved and became popular in Denmark.
Classification of Ballet Dance
It is one of the oldest forms of ballet dancing techniques. It involves all the old movements that were implemented in the beginning of the ballet dance in early 14th to 18th century. The styles differ slightly according to the place of practice and are named differently to indicate the same. For example: Danish ballet, Italian ballet and Russian ballet.Features of classical ballet are:
It is a ballet style, which involves the same classical steps but with less rigidness. It also concentrates on the spacing of the performance. This style has less complicated steps when compared to classical ballet.
Contemporary ballet combines the modern dance and the classical ballet. It makes the dancer to take the strength from the abdominal region and render light ‘no-gravity' movements. It needs a regulated body control to perform this contemporary ballet.
Right age to start ballet for kids
Parents might want to initiate their children into ballet as soon as possible. However, the recommended correct age to start ballet classes is 10 to 12 years. Pre ballet classes can be started at the age of 4 and where more emphasis is laid on making the body flexible. The students are not encouraged to do any kind of heavy movement, as a child's bones are soft at that tender age.
Ballet for adults
Those who have had prior exposure to gymnastics or acrobatics might find learning ballet easier than those who lack body flexibility. Thus, as long as an adult has a fairly flexible and supple body, he or she can learn ballet at any older age.
