When the electron is at infinite distance from the nucleus it's energy is regarded as zero. As the distance between valence electron and nucleus increases the attraction between them decreases. At the infinite distance the attraction between electron and nucleus is almost nil.

A)The highest first ionisation enthalpy is seen in carbon as it is non metal compared to si because down the group nonmetallic character decreases and similarly from right to left nonmetalic character decreases hence carbon has highest IE than Si, B and Al. A)The highest first ionisation enthalpy is seen in carbon as it is non metal compared to si because down the group nonmetallic character decreases and similarly from right to left nonmetalic character decreases hence carbon has highest IE than Si, B and Al. And also carbon  is electronegative in nature & also it is tetra covalent due to which the release of any electron is very difficult from its excited state.

B) Among B, si, c and Al Aluminium has more metallic character because from right to left metallic character increases. And also it has highest atomic radius.
