IdentityEnglish class is about grammar, vocabulary, reading skills and comprehension of broad categories of written material, studying the common literary culture of English speaking peoples (and perhaps world literature translated into English), learning techniques to organize written, oral, and multi-media presentations to communicate with others, learning to conduct research and cite the materials to attribute references appropriately, and mastering the dominant language of business and science.
If you can't read, and you can't write, you can't function. And the higher your goals, the more you will be required to employ these skills.
