Engineering Tutor and Cuemath teacher

The working principle of I.M. is electromagnetic induction. If I.M. runs at synchronous speed then there would be no relative speed between stator field and rotor. Then there will be no induced emf, no current and no torque will be produced. Hence I.M. always runs at a speed less than synchronous spe...

Induction motor always tries to run at synchronous speed , but in trying to achieve synchronous speed it loses the property by which it actually runs ie., relative speed between stator field and rotor becomes zero, and which makes the motor to stop, as the motor tries to stop ie., slows down, again relative...

Induction motor always tries to run at synchronous speed , but in trying to achieve synchronous speed it loses the property by which it actually runs ie., relative speed between stator field and rotor becomes zero, and which makes the motor to stop, as the motor tries to stop ie., slows down, again relative speed appears between stator field and rotor and therefore again it starts running, thereby the rotor of IM always try to catch the synchronous speed but it cannot and slips away. That’s why as the IM cannot run with synchronous speed it is also called as Asynchronous motor. read less

Because rotor conductors carry currents only if there i a relative speed between stator field and rotor field , if it will run on synchronous speed then induced emf in rotor conductors will be zero and rotor currents will also be zero then motor will not run at all

If it runs at synchronous speed then the flux linkage in the rotor winding is zero hence no torque is produced.

if the speed of the rotor reaches to synchronous speed then other is no relative speed between the rotor and stator field hence no e.m.f and hence no current. due to this no torque to maintain rotation. that is the reason for IM always runs below synch speed.

That is induction motor is not a self starting motor.

If I.M runs at synchronous speed, then relative speed between stator field & rotor is zero. so torque is zero. that's why I.M can't run at synchronous speed.
