This is a very broad question. A best approach to start will be to plan where you are and where you want to reach by the end of one week. I would highly recommend picking up one standard book (Rec. This is a very broad question. A best approach to start will be to plan where you are and where you want to reach by the end of one week. I would highly recommend picking up one standard book (Rec. R S Agarwal) and picking up a favorite topic (Rec. Easy and interesting) and take evaluatory tests. Look at what mistake you make. Look at what part of the problem is challenging for you. Now, you have a dragon to slay. Time that for one week. Dont run behind new methods or techniques. Build on ur strengths. Practice and win over your weaknesses. By the end of 1 week, you should be able to solve better and make lesser mistakes. Choose your material and choose the problems you want to solve. No standard one-solution-works-for-all method here. MSc. Maths, MBA (IIM A), B.Tech (Comp. Sc. & Engg)

IMO, start with basic Class IX and X maths, and basis my experience, that should be enough for starters and as stated above, you can then follow up by taking classes.

It depends upon kind of profile. Usually, for a B.tech Student, its easier to crack Maths section but for a student with non maths background, its slightly difficult to tackle Maths section on your own. However, given the time in hand and right resources, good score can be achieved. Text books like Quantum...

Dear Sivani, Note that it is difficult to prepare for IIM CAT examinations on your own. You have to join in a good Institute. All the best.

Hi Shivani, First of all, I would like to know about problems that you are facing. Accordingly I would love to advice you. When I was also preparing for CAT, I too had faced problems to manage time for all the sections .Faced difficulty during self studies. Faced difficulty in managing my time for my strong and weak sections. I do believe you should better go for personal CAT coaching if you think you can give much time of your day for CAT preparation or you feel you will have difficulties in Institute coaching. I had studied from all Arun Sharma's a book before getting into IIM.Though you can take their crash course later when you have understood the basics and devoted much time in your preparation, you can apply for Test series. Good luck with your preparation. read less

yes but that would be little bit tough for you, As you may need professional guidance in holistic process. Few Tips- You can start with easy and comfortable topics then movie on to extensive ones. Numbers are the easy one but lots of with lots of logics. Arithmetic would be good for you.

Hi Shivani If you have decided to prepare by yourself then you have to start from scratch. First you have to scan the syllabus totally. Next step will be identifying your strong and weak areas. And concentrate more on your weak areas. Make notes on basic concepts, formulas in every topic and try to scan daily. Another main thing which you need is speed. Speed plays very important role in this exam. So first practice on speed maths techniques. You have to allocate at least half-hour for this session daily as this will help you not only in quantitative but also your data interpretation section. Focus on shortcuts but don't forget to know the conventional methods because at times we may forget the shortcut. And one last thing, which you have to apply in exam. "SKIP" the question if you really feel you can't do. Skipping the question is as good as solving a question which you know. Skipping will save your time and after finishing all the questions you know then you can come back to these questions. Summary: Basics, Speed, Shortcuts and Skipping. read less
