Weighing machine gives us apparent weight only, not actual weight.
Exact weight=apparant weight+upthrust
exact weight is the force due to gravity, which is acting vertically downwards, and upthrust is vertically upwards. Hence the exact weight will be more than 42kg.
The density of iron bag is more than that of a cotton bag.
volume=mass/density
so cotton bag occupies more volume. Hence more is the upthrust force for a cotton bag
weighing machine gives apparent weight.
Actual weight is the sum of apparent weight and upthrust force.
the cotton bag is more massive since it has more upthrust force than an iron bar
