Q1. Why do flowers have different colours? Ans: To attract insects to flowers to encourage pollination. Q2: How do flowers have different colours? Ans: Because of Biological pigments. Q3: What is that? Ans: Biological pigments, also known simply as pigments or bio-chromes are substances produced by living organisms that have a color resulting from selective color absorption. Biological pigments include plant pigments and flower pigments. The primary function of pigments in plants is photosynthesis, which uses the green pigment chlorophyll along with several red and yellow pigments that help to capture as much light energy as possible. The principal pigments responsible are: - Chlorophyll : it is a chlorine that absorbs yellow and blue wavelengths of light while reflecting green. - Carotenoids are red, orange, or yellow tetraterpenoids. - Anthocyanins: are water-soluble flavonoid pigments that appear red to blue, according to pH. Give pansies their dark purple pigmentation. - Betalains: are red or yellow pigments is also responsible for the deep red color of beets. Not to be confused with anthocyanidins, the sugar-free counterparts of anthocyanins. read less

Flower colors of red, pink, blue and purple come mainly from the pigments called anthocyanins, which are in the class of chemicals called flavanoids (what gives plants their color). Other pigments are carotenoids, found in tomatoes and carrots, that provide yellow, red and orange in the plastids.
