Ravi Shankar

Hailing from traditional legendary musicians of Benaras Gharana, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasanna was fortunate to have the right environment for his latent musical talent to blossom. He learned Hindustani Classical Music and groomed under the kind guidance of his father late Pt. Raghunath Prasanna (awarded with Kendriya Sangeet Natak Academy), late Ustad Mohammed Ali Khan and late Pt. Satyadev Panwar. The polished tonal grace, rhythmic elegance, depth as well as lucidity of expression evident in his playing are the result of his continuing advanced training and refinement under his father and to the rigours of such a preeminent tradition, he added his own dedication and finesse through painstaking practice, assiduous assimilation and erudite presentation. He has imbibed the techniques and style of rendition from them through hours of rigour and while learning music. He has also won scholarship from Sahitya Kala Parishad, awarded Surmani and won All India Music Competition organized by Akashwani. Since then he has repeatedly performed in All India Radio, Akashwani & Doordarshan. He is known for his many successful performances around the globe; North Korea, China (Indian Council of Cultural Relations), Thailand, Russia to name some. He is â??Aâ??-Grade artist and serving All India Radio for the past Twenty five years.

He is considered a rare combination of innovator and traditionalist. He has expanded the expressive possibilities of the flute through his masterful blowing technique and is also an illustrious violin player. Equipped with this repository of knowledge he has made it a mission to disseminate this to his countless disciples over the past twenty five years. To promote Hindustani classical music he has created a syllabus for learning Hindustani classical music and will be soon releasing it in the form of cd and book. His unique style of teaching makes students learn and understand music in an easy and a more adaptive way. A selfless teacher teaching under guru-shishya parampara, he takes immense pride in the achievements of his pupils.
