Depends on how well it is built and how you treat it. Roughly it will last around 3 to 4 years around kids, if they won't play catch catch with it. For adults who treasure their stuffs, it will last a life time.

Secondly you might fall in love with the wood and it's texture, and the feel of the string it's tensile strength, it's sound.

I think these points should be enough to hook you in. Just buy the basic acoustic guitar with the right action( less distance between the strings and the wood).

Low budget - intern guitars

Mid budget - yamaha

High budget - fender

After learning them throughout the neck of a guitar, you should jump to modes and their specific chords to get the emotional flavour of each modes. Therefore, I think beginners should always start with scales and basic finger movements rather then putting all there focus on learning a cover song because that's just imitation in the end but it's fun to play and sing along your favourite song.

Just get a good teacher and stick to what he or she tells you to do in the beginning, after few months if you follow that regiment you will flourish ✌️.
