If you want to speak English without making grammatical mistakes, you have to study grammar. Unless you have some knowledge of grammar, you will not even know that you are making mistakes. The word tense refers to the way a verb changes its form to show time. There are only two tense forms to a form: Present and Past. Present: Go, goes Past: went. Going and gone do not show any tense. They can be used for speaking about past, present or future. Use the present form to speak about what happens every day, every time, by habit or custom. 'She goes to work by car.' 'I watch the 9 o'clock news.' The speak about what happened in the past, use the past form: 'I met him yesterday.' To speak about a running or continuing action, use the -ing for 'We are waiting for the doctor.' Present 'We were watching a movie last night.' Past. 'Don't call me at 2. I will be sleeping.' Future. 'I have been working here since 2012. Past to present. 'He had been working in the previous company for two years. Past to Past. Use the -ed/en form to speak about completed action with reference to situat ion in the present; in the past. 'I have applied for visa. (Action in the past, situation (waiting for visa) Present. General advice that people can give you is 'read a lot and watch good speeches, plays and movies.' If you are looking for specific strategies, you should take the help of a good teacher who is also an expert.
