Is it advisable to stress on certain words when teaching? Like for example, I realized just last year that when I said the word GAS with a sibilant sound, like GASSSSSSSSSS, it caught my students' attention better.

Emphasis on the correct word while teaching, is equivalent to highlighting the key words that helps a student learn/memorise it better. This becomes especially important you are taking language classes . There are times that the teacher too gets to learn few correct pronunciation from the student.
