In case you already know how to play the acoustic guitar then learning basic techniques of the electric guitar should take approximately 2 to 3 months. Because when you switch to an electric guitar from an acoustic guitar, you will have to adapt to the body and string gauge of an electric guitar which is thinner compared to an acoustic. Also you will have to understand to make optimum use of the electronics like the volume knob, tone knob, pick up selectors and tremolo bar based on the musical situation. But in case you have not learned the acoustic guitar before and directly want to learn the electric, then its going to take around 6 months to learn basics. read less
