20 Resume Tips That Will Get You Shortlisted.

You have mentioned every relevant detail on your resume. A friend has proofread it for you. You are confident that your experience is going to impress the reader. But, how can you be sure if your resume is top notch. Mentioned below are 20 resume tips that will get you shortlisted for the interview process and you never know this perfect resume may be your ticket to land your dream job.(Want A Job Abroad, read here to know more about International Resume)

1. Change the ridiculous email address. (If your email address is something similar to ‘loverboy@xyz.com’ change it, now.)

2. Check your contact information. (Mentioning the wrong number on a resume or a number you are not going to be available on during work hours is going to be the silliest of all mistakes.)

3. Don’t use the same resume for different jobs. (Imagine you sending out the same resume for an accounting as well as a photography job. Absurd.)

4. Keep it short. (Nobody has the time to read a five page long resume.)

5. Avoid typos. Grammatical errors, spelling mistakes and the sorts, check and check again.

6. Use the right keywords. (Job title, industry name and special skills should do the trick.)

7. Proofread. (Not once, but maybe twice or thrice. Importantly, ask someone else to proofread it for you.)

8. Have a relevant objective. (If nothing, it will make you look professional.)

9. Mention experience first. (Employers are more concerned about your previous experience, so please save everyone the trouble and don’t start your CV with your qualifications.)

10. All experience is not relevant. (Certainly not your school days one)

11. Write in bullets. (Nobody likes reading lengthy paragraphs, especially a hiring manager.)

12. Reveal dates. (Yes you worked for XYZ, but for how long, mention that.)

13. Mention numbers. (How much did you earn as Sales, how many hires did you do as HR, etc)

14. State achievements instead of responsibilities. (Hiring managers want to know what you learned from your responsibilities; just stating that you did something won’t do the trick.)

15. Avoid unnecessary big words. (They know you used the Thesaurus.)

16. No pictures please. (You don’t want to get hired on the basis of your looks, what about your skills?)

17. Don’t lie. (They can figure, always.)

18. Utilize action words. (Managed, coached, planned etc are what work.)

19. Avoid slangs. (‘Dude’ and ‘yeah man’ among others might just turn your CV into a trash can ball.)

20. Cite skills. (People are interested in skills so that they can judge if you’re capable of handling a certain profile.)

A good resume will make you stand out among the large number of applicants. If you have the desired skills for a job and perfect chronological representation of it, there is nothing stopping you. We hope that this article is of help.
