 A Cron is a job scheduler based on time. It helps our application schedule a job to run on its own at a certain date or time. 

The word Cron is used in short for the chronograph. This model can perform system maintenance or administration. It can also be used for other purposes, such as connecting to the Internet and downloading email. 

It is basically a URL platform invoked by the Google App Engine.

The easiest way to run a cronjob would be to use a shell user. 

Steps to setup: 

  1. Schedule time- This is the first thing you need to do before you schedule your task. Do you want it to run daily, weekly or hourly? However, try not to run it too frequently, or it might affect the performance. 
  2. Write down the schedule- The second thing is to write your schedule wisely so that crontab will understand it. The common format of a crontab schedule consists of a specific format. 

            3. The fields need to be in the very same order, with lack of empty or missing fields and needs to be placed on a  single line.

  1. How to specify the command line-
  2. How to be notified of errors
  3. Make a text file with all the important lines
  4. Upload the file to your web server making use of the FTP program
  5. Connect to your web server's shell account
  6. Invoke crontab to set your cron job
