Surajit Chatterjee

Representing Kirana gharana Surajit Chattopadhyay initially started his musical journey with tabla under the tutelage of Shri Kashinath Ghoshal.
He moved on to receive training under his guru Shri Kumar Roy, a noted vocalist of Kirana gharana. After being inducted into Kirana gharana Surajit’s repertoire was enriched more under renowned vocalist Late Pandit Chandrakant Apte.
Surajit has always been a proud flag bearer of Kirana gharana and has patiently groomed himself to perfection with immense support from his culturally rich family. His performances always show his prowess over systematic Vistaars, intricate Taans and Layakari as is true to the style of his gharana.
His accomplishments include a National Scholarship by the Govt. of India in 1994, being enlisted as a vocalist of the esteemed EZCC, ICCR and AIR. He is an approved Khayal artiste of All India Radio from Kolkata centre.
To further extend his knowledge to the next generation, he joined Shakhri Begum Memorial Trust in 2012 as a guru and he continues to ably guide his disciples till date.
