What makes a person to be a great musician?

If you have inherited musical ability, good! But you can create it also by your effort in learning with Guru-Shishya tradition (1 to 1 basis) & not in a group/class, to begin with - till the perfect musical scale is fit into your brain. What all things should I consider before hiring a Hindustani music teacher?

It all depends on what is your level of knowledge & proficiency in Music- theory & Practice; as well as your purpose to study music - for Exam/ Performance/ competition etc. If you have already learnt Classical in particular Gharana/style, it is easier to follow same further. It all depends on what is your level of knowledge & proficiency in Music- theory & Practice; as well as your purpose to study music - for Exam/ Performance/ competition etc. If you have already learnt Classical in particular Gharana/style, it is easier to follow same further. But choice is yours to change to another Gharana- with a bit more effort. More than Popular name of Guru, choose sincere trainer/teacher & stick for at least 1 year to check , if you can do well.

Is it beneficial if someone takes Indian Classical Vocal lessons from a trainer of same gender ?

It is most convenient to learn/ teach in more/less same Scale - as Black 4/5 for females, or Black 1/2 for Males.

It depends on your requirement to develop yourself - as a hobby/ professional musician. It is costly, but better you buy a full size keyboard with Transpose facility.

How to learn keyboard?

2 ways- by trial & error method ( try to play familiar tunes), by following written Sargam/Notation Under guidance of Guru. Guru has to check per student which will be easier.
