I am a little late to answer this. However, better late than never!

Basics are always the strong foundation of anything. Learning basics well helps to go beyond basics. It's like rising up the stairs. In any creative medium it plays even more important role to expand the horizon of knowledge and imagination.

Camera technology (and lens technology) is continuously evolving every day. There should not be any doubt on it's importanct. One must know the technology to make it work for desired result. For instance, people generally believe higher megapixels produce better results. However, the key player is the sensor size to bring out the best from the megapixel. Photographers care about sharpness of the lens. But I have not seen photographers looking at MTF charts generally. Knowledge of technology helps to improve the result.

Hope this helps..

Please feel free to reach for further queries.

Regards,

Rishi
