IdentityCrossFit Chakra, Pune, India, was born on 7th September, 2014, out of curiosity, an urge to finish an intensity WOD (workout of the day) and a desire to introduce a different kind of fitness to Pune.
It all started with the inability to complete a CrossFit infamous workout called - Murph - (1 mile run, 300 squats, 200 push-ups,100 pull-ups, 1 mile run). Pawan Jani, Founder of CrossFit Chakra, stumbled upon Murph, four years back, a Fitness Trainer then, decided to give it a shot and found himself dying halfway. Always in search of surprises, this got him intrigued. Had he found a different world of fitness? Why couldn't he finish it? And thus began his desire to find out more about CrossFit. He constantly checked out videos online and tried his hand at intensity CrossFit WOD's. It took him a month of rigorous training but he had finally nailed the mean Murph workout in under 50 minutes. Once he had done it, there was no going back.
He realized, there is no such thing in Pune. If he could do it, others could do it too. The fire in working out just needed to brought back. So he ended up quitting his job, met Shivoham, founder CrossFit OM (Mumbai), conducted a successful boot-camp in Pune and started introducing Pune-ites to CrossFit in Jogger's Park, Kalyaninagar. Pawan built a small community that consisted of 10-30 CrossFitters, taught three days a week, in two batches. Over the next two years, locations were changed, from Koregaon park lanes, to mall/ restaurant terraces
