Overview

Foundation building, analysis and problem solving are the key pillars in understanding and learning any subject, and these are what I focus in my teaching. I call myself "maverick" because my teaching methods are fun yet very innovative and out-of-box.

I am well known in school teaching circles as a leading instructor of Mathematics and Sciences (especially Physics), however I have ability to handle all subject with equal deftness. I have helped scores of students understand the building blocks of their subjects. I mix learning from my professional experience with my teaching to provide practical feel of the theory my students are studying. In soft skills front, I'm a keen listener and pay attention to needs of individual student as I believe each student is unique, has her/his own strengths and weaknesses and I need to work on her/him to make the student succeed.

Professionally, I am an engineer with 20 years of experience in industry in hard hands-on engineering and this is the reason of my strong analytical skills in Math and Science.

"The way he approaches the problem is quite brilliant and I have never seen any teacher to approach a problem in a practical way, and he did it very well. One more thing I liked about him that he tried to explain concepts through numerical questions which is the best way to understand some good concepts and how can I forget the practical knowledge which he used to give during the lectures especially that Aircraft Factor of Safety (FOS) thing. But the problem which I am facing is Notes, things are very messy in my notes, as a result it will be difficult for me to revise my notes. But I don't think that this is his fault, with the limited time period provided, all of the things can't be done. "

It is a highly subjective question as different people have different concentration thresholds and flairs. In general, however, the following points apply to anyone studying anything:

  1. Time of Study: I find night as the best time for me to study as there is a less ambient disturbance. Many of my friends learned early in the morning as they felt fresh and energized after a good night's sleep. Some found afternoons/evenings good time as they had just returned from school/college and had retained most of what they studied in school/college.
  2. Background or Ambient environment: Many of you might not have thought about it actively, but the background or ambient environment significantly affects our concentration. I find playing trance or house music (mostly without vocals) helps me concentrate the best. Yet, many of my friends found playing background music very disturbing. Some found they could focus a lot better when studying with the TV on in the background. Find your threshold.
  3. Breaks: It's a well-known fact that most people can't concentrate on anything beyond a couple of hours. It is especially true in studying. I take persistent breaks, every half an hour. Some of my friends could concentrate for several hours but only on a couple of exciting topics. In general, leaves should be taken after every 30-60 minutes.
  4. Exercising: It helps me a lot. I do quick aerobics: stretching, in-place jogging, jumping jack or sometimes hard ones like dumbells and push-ups in the breaks. I find exercising very refreshing, and it also helps me concentrate better.
  5. Avoid Gadgets as much as you can: It's a no brainer. We get distracted a lot by social media. Simple steps, like stopping notifications, help a lot. I prefer keeping my phone on mute without vibration when I am studying or working.

I m studying B.tech mechanical. So i need to take some other outside courses. In that which course is best wheather the autocad or hypermesh?

AutoCAD is a drafting tool while HyperMesh is an FEA preprocessor. Both have their own advantages. If you want to go for design and drafting, go for AutoCAD. If you want to work in analysis, go for HyperMesh.

It is pretty clear from the replies what GATE is and what GATE score is primarily used for. Besides the admissions and PSUs, GATE score can be used for few more things: 1) Some universities in Germany and Singapore also use GATE score for their PG admissions. 2) Some IITs have MS course: its a 2 year Master of Science course focussing on research and science rather than applications. GATE is used for MS admissions too. 3) Some private companies also check GATE scores as it is the only standardised score of all all engineering students in India irrespective of their universities / institutes. Overall, GATE score does look to be a useful thing to have.

Innovative, time and effort efficient problem solving is key to get higher score in GATE.
