When you talk about self defence its not only important in india, but i would say it is an important thing to learn either you live in any country of the world. Self defence or martial arts is not teaches you to protect yourself it also teaches your mind and body in extreme level so you start taking life more seriously and wisely as before. It gives you the confidence to walk alone in the street with the patience and Control to your body to react to the situation accordingly. And in nndia as we all know no one knows when yo can have someone infront of you to rob it's better to stay alive. Like a Chinese proverb "it's better to be a warrior in a garden, then a Gardener in a war".
