Abdul Latheef

I. Talking about past habits:

We use 'used to' to talk about past habit which we don't do in the present.

Used to + infinitive (verb1):

1. I used to drink coffee (I had a habit of drinking coffee, but I don't drink coffee now).

2. I used to play volleyball (Playing volleyball was my past habit. I don't play volleyball now).

Negative sentence:

Subject + didn't use to + infinitive:

1. I didn't use to smoke. (I didn't have a habit of smoking).

2. I didn't use to ride in the city.

Question:

1. Did you use to wake up early in the morning?

2. Did you use to meet him?

II. Talking about present habits:

Subject + infinitive (verb1):

1. I play football in the evening.

2. I go to bed at 10 o'clock every day.

Negative sentence:

Subject + doesn't / don't + infinitive (verb1):

If the subject is singular (he, she, it) use 'does' and if it is plural(I, you,  we, they),  use 'do':

1. I don't drink coffee:

2. He doesn't eat non vegetarian food.

Question:

1. Do you go there every day?

2. Does she read newspaper every day?
