In order to pick up English fluently, one must first understand that there are four key skills. All of these are dependent and related to each other. They are: listening, speaking, reading and writing. If a person wishes to learn the language, he/she has to master the skills in the same order as mentioned. So for starters, listening to well spoken english will incorporate the understanding of tone, diction, pitch, intonation and helps comprehend the language more effectively. The next is speaking, conversing in the language after gaining confidence and established command over one's listening skill. Once that is achieved, an individual should read in order to enhance and broaden his/her vocabulary. Leading to the cardinal skill of writing. A person with a rich vocabulary has no inhibitions of expression. Therefore, first learn the language by listening to the correct usage of the language, then speak with others using the right tone, pitch, fluency etc. After which you should read books and never stop reading, as there is no limit to development of a language, then write and express, as that keeps you connected to the language. read less

Hi Gopik. First & foremost, you need to have a VERY STRONG DESIRE to learn and speak good English. If you can enroll for a Spoken English class, it will help you learn the basics and thumb rules of the language. But having learnt, you must consciously decide to speak with your friends (despite their teasing you!) in English. One good idea is to identify friends who don't know your language and initiating a conversation with them. This way you will be compelled to converse and only if you do this everyday, will you find it improving.Parallely, read atleast 1 or 2 news articles and check for meanings & pronunciation of new words. Importantly, try to use these new words in your sentences; else, you will forget their meaning. Best Wishes! read less
