Noun: A word which is used to name a person/place/thing.

Kinds of nouns:

  • Proper noun: Milton, Ramana, Hyderabad
  • Common noun: Boys, Children, Doctor
  • Collective noun: Class, team, group
  • Material noun: gold, silver, water
  • Abstract noun: sweetness, honesty, wisdom

Pronoun: A word which is used to substitute a noun to avoid unnecessary repetition of noun

10 types of pronouns are there.

Eg:

  • He is playing in the ground.
  • They are going to a movie
  • We will go together to the school tomorrow. 

Personal Pronouns: 

              Singular          plural

Ip               I                        We

IIp            you                    You

IIIp          {He/she/it}     They

Adjective: It is a word which describes a noun or a pronoun.

Eg: three, much, all, few, several, some, these, those, every, whose, which

  • She is a beautiful girl
  • They are clever children
  • There are only some flowers in the garden

Verbs: It is a word that tells what someone or something is done or experienced. In this two topics have to be learned.

 Types of verbs and four forms of verbs:

 Types of Verbs:

 1) Principal verb (or) Main verb: It gives complete sense in a sentence

Eg:

  • I drink milk
  • I will be going to park tomorrow
  • Welcome from America

a)Transitive Verb: it takes an object 

  1. b) Intransitive verb: it doesn’t take an object.

 2) Auxiliary verb: helps the principal verb to complete the sense

Adverb:

Def: An ‘adverb’ is a word that adds to the meaning of the verb or an adjective or another adverb.

Examples for Adverbs :

Now, then, Before, Since, ago, yesterday, out, below, inside, outside, far, once, first, twice, thrice

Eg:

  • He was badly hurt
  • I have told him twice.
  • She often gives dance performances
  • He visits sometimes here
  • They were fallen ill yesterday

Badly, sadly, hard, quickly, fast, bravely

Preposition:

Defn: A word which shows the relationship between two things and placed either before noun or pronoun

Eg: at, in, by, from, off, through, till, to, up, with, over, out, down, of, on, etc.

  • Gopal is in the room
  • We write with a pen
  • The man jumped into the river
  • Malini has been staying here for 4 years
  • No student was late as Ramu 

Conjunction:

‘Conjunction’ is a word which joins two or more phrases and sentences.

They are of two types: a) co-ordinate conjunctions b) subordinate conjunctions

Eg:  And, both, as well as, not only-but also, either-or, neither-or, when, while, before, after, because, though, If, unless, if not, as long as, whether, so-that, in order to, no sooner than, as soon as, also, as, that, because, since, as if, when,and where.

Eg:

  • The students sing vandemataram before they start their function
  • Neither my father nor my mother will accompany me to hyd
  • Ashish and antony wanted to go home
  • They want to visit museum after he finishes exams
  • Either students or lecturers of the college not participated 

Interjection:

Defn: it is a word used to express surprise or emotion

Eg: oh!, Alas!, wow!, ah!, hurray!, ouch!
