Greetings & Farewells

A greeting is a word or gesture of welcome or salutation. Greetings can be used to start a conversation and acknowledge an individual or group of individuals. Read the dialogue below to better understand how to use a greeting in conversation. After completing this chapter, practice this dialogue using your own information and name. 

 JOHN: Hello. My name is John. (Greeting)

JANICE: Pleased to meet you. My name is Janice.

Example Two:

JOHN: Good afternoon! How are you doing on this fine day? (Greeting)

JANICE: I’m doing fine. How about you?

Example Three: J

Hi. What’s new? (Greeting)

JANICE: Nothing much. How about you? What do you say when you meet someone

1. Hello! How do you do?

2. Hello! How are you?

3. It is nice to meet you.

4. Hello! How is everything?

5. Hello! What's new?

6. I am pleased to meet you.

Answers:

1. Hello! How do you do?

2. Fine, thanks and you?

3. The pleasure is mine.

4. Everything is fine. How about you?

5. Nothing much. How about you?

6. Me too. What to say when you leave

1. Goodbye. It was good to see you.

2. I am happy to have met you.

3. I hope to see you soon.

4. I have to go now, it's getting late.

5. I'm in a hurry, I have an appointment.

6. I hope we can get together again.

Answers:

1. Goodbye. It was wonderful meeting you.

2. Thank you. It was nice meeting you.
