How to successfully crack the SSC CHSL exam?

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) organizes every year 10+2 level competitive exam to recruit LDC (Lower Division Clerks), DEO (Data Entry Operators) and Postal Assistants/Sorting Assistants, all over India. The difficulty level of the exam is that of 10+2 level but due to huge competition, the SSC CHSL exam has become a tough nut to crack for many aspirants. So if you are all gearing up for the SSC exam, here are few tips you must keep in mind while preparing for the exam: Plan your preparation 3-4 months ahead: When it comes to preparing for the SSC CHSL competitive exam, it is always good to start early. Keep at least 3-4 months’ time in hand and chart out a study plan. Allocate time for each of the sections -- General Intelligence, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness, and cover all the critical concepts and topics. Most important is to be regular in your studies, no matter what never give yourself lame excuses why you can’t study. Just make it a point to study every single day with focus. General Intelligence -- How to prepare? General Intelligence is an important section of the SSC CHSL exam and questions are going to be a little tricky. The questions are basically designed to gauge your mental and logical thinking ability, so give particular emphasis while preparing for this section. There would be a total of 50 questions which will based on verbal and non-verbal reasoning. Here are few tips for the SSC CHSL General Intelligence section:
  • Have conceptual clarity whether it be verbal or non-verbal -- Syllogism, Analogy, Social Intelligence, Word Building, Classifications and more
  • Understand all the components of diagram, take note of positions, size and directions
  • Analyze all the previous question papers and understand question patterns
  • Practice is a must-do activity on every single day
English Language -- How to prepare? The English Language carries a total of 50 marks. Like in any other competitive exams, English is also an important section of the SSC CHSL exam. The test is designed to check your command over the English language and its appropriate usages. Here are few tips to deal with the English section:
  • Know the grammar rules and its usages
  • Understand all grammar topics clearly such as sentence completion, antonyms, synonyms, idioms & phrases and more
  • Practice grammar exercises for all the topics and analyze your answers to spot your mistake areas
  • Read newspapers, magazines, reference books and improve your vocabulary
  • Work on your comprehension skills by solving sample questions and try to understand what the author is trying to say and the theme of a written passage
  • Know to spot spell errors and how to form sentences correctly
Quantitative Aptitude -- How to prepare? Quantitative Aptitude is one of the most scoring of all the sections if you get the answers right. Scoring can be easy and tough depending on the complexity of the questions and your understanding of the questions.
  • This section requires you to know a lot of mathematical short cut methods
  • Quantitative section tends to take more time to solve the questions. So save more time in other sections to keep more time for the quant section
  • Practicing is key to score well in this section
  • Get complete clarity on fundamental mathematical concepts
General Awareness -- How to prepare? General Awareness can be considered one of the most scoring sections in the SSC CHSL exam. By staying updated about the current affairs in India and around the world, you can tend to score higher. Following the tips for General Awareness:
  • Pay attention to national and international news, for the last 7-8 months before the exam
  • Read newspapers, magazines and Competitive Success Review (CSR)
  • Cover important topics in finance, politics, economy, and more
