Sumeet Anand

Sumeet was born in Patna in to an illustrious musical family, custodians of centuries’ old ‘Gauhar Vani’ Dhrupad tradition of Darbhanga Gharana. Maternal Grandson of PadmaShree Late Pt Siyaram Tiwari, one of the most successful exponents of Dhrupad and great grandson of music genius Bihar Ratna Late Pt Ram Prasad Pandey, Sumeet received music in family legacy. He started learning Indian classical music at a tender age from his grandfather, Sh. Birendra Mohan Pandey and went on to complete Sangeet Prabhakar (B.A) and Sangeet Visharad (M.A.), both with first division from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad and Prachin Kala Kendra Chandigarh, respectively. Since 2008, Sumeet is learning Dhrupad as per Guru-Shishya tradition from living legend, Dhrupad Maestro, Pt Abhay Narayan Mallick, Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee and top grade AIR artist. He has performed with his Guru in many prestigious music festivals across the country.
Sumeet is fast emerging as a promising young talent as a solo Dhrupad vocalist. His alap in trademark ‘Gauhar Vani’ style, grounded in raagdari reflects the rigour and thorough taleem he has been receiving from his Guruji, Pandit Abhay Narayan Mallick. And, his spontaneous upaj in layakari, with accurate tihaais, a specialty of Darbhanga tradition reminds one of his maternal grandfather, Late Pt, Siyaram Tiwari. Besides being a performer, Sumeet is a methodical trainer and he has been training students of all age groups since last 3 years.
