When we have granular data i.e it can be broken into multiple categories and sub_categories this Conditional filter comes very handy. For example if you have a school data and you want to find out top 3 students from every section of every class including all or few subjects can be done by tableau using coditional filters.

When we apply a quick filter, we get a list of conditions. For eg when we apply filter on any measure we get 4 diferent conditions, when we apply those conditions, that is called conditional filter.
Also when we create a KPI and apply filtering on the column values inside the calculated field, that is also called as conditional filter.
