1. 1 Definition: An organism in which cellulose is absent in its cell wall is said to have a non-cellulosic cell wall. An organism in which cellulose is present in its cell wall is said to have a cellulosic cell wall.
1.2 Description: in the non-cellulosic cell wall, cellulose my be replaced by pectin, hemicellulose, chitin, etc. In cellulosic cell wall, cellulose is present in a primary and secondary layer of the cell wall.
1.3 Examples: non-cellulosic cell wall- Fungi, marine algae, eg. Bryopsis.
Cellulosic cell wall- kingdom Plantae, eg. Dicots and monocots
1.4 characteristic function: non-cellulosic cell wall maintains the pressure, i.e. prevents over-expansion of the cell when water enters into the cell.
The cellulosic cell wall provides mechanical strength and allows plants to grow tall.
2. Cellulose is a polysaccharide which has many unique properties such as 2.1 it has a natural polymeric structure
