What is 2D Animation? Where it is utilized? Some learners have trouble differentiating 2D animation from 3D animation. 2D animation is an animation technique that includes the use of objects that are made to move in a 2D space or in flat space. In other words, two dimensional objects (objects that have length and width but lack depth that made it 2D animation) are made to appear to move in flat space. It is a method that involves the creation of moving pictures through several methods such as traditional cell animation or through computerized animation software.2D animation is also called as classical animation. For example we have seen in our child hood favorite shows like Duck Tales, Tales Spin, Tom n Jerry, He Man, Flintstones, Spiderman and many more. When used on the internet, 2D animations are displayed as Flash or animated GIF. It is a technique or method commonly used in 2D animation videos by 2D animation companies. Pickles Animations is a 2D animation US based company that specializes in creation of 2D animation videos. 2D animation companies use several techniques when producing 2D animations and 2D animation videos. Some of these are the traditional `cell' technique, computer animation and Go-motion. Computer Animation In this method uses computers to generate the moving pictures and is commonly used by 2D animation companies to produce 2D animation videos and small flash animation. Some software and systems are capable of achieving real-time recording of 25 frames per second but most animations are usually created each frame at a time. 2D animation is very time consuming and interesting job. This is then edited to form a continuous sequence. Highly sophisticated machines and programs are used to carry out tasks such as movement, perspective, fairing, coloring, hidden surface removal, illumination and shading. Modern 2D animation videos require highly realistic 2D images that in turn need powerful computers capable of performing millions of computation for each individual frame. Visual effects Animation This involves the visual effects animation and creation of non-character movements that can include things like wind, smoke, lightning, rain, water and so on. Go-Motion This is similar to stop motion, although it involves the use of sticks and rods attached to puppets to produce the animation effect it is also gives feel live puppet animation. Therefore learners should not be confused with stop motion animations. 2D animation as an animation that is widely used by 2D animation companies and has some distinctive advantages. The freedom the animator has to deform the involved characters as well as exaggerate their reactions to extreme laughable proportions that we have seen in Tom n Jerry, The Mask and many more. It is not easy to achieve this with 3D animation since you would end up with silly-looking results and an overly-complicated animation control set up in 3D animation. Another major benefit that comes with 2D animation is the animator's get visual freedom when dealing with the 2D scenes. In 2D animation free to change the colors, add ornaments and other effects. In short 2D can afford viewer to look unreal-life in away 3D cannot. read less

Calling 3d virtual or almost real may not be as logical as the detailed 3d (almost real) is far more expensive than 2d animation. So budgets in creating any film play major role on decisions on opting one of the 2. read less

Hi Aadesh, What is 2D Animation? The creation of moving pictures in a two-dimensional environment, such as through "traditional" cel animation or in computerized animation software. This is done by sequencing consecutive images, or "frames", that simulate motion by each image showing the next in a gradual progression of steps. The eye can be "fooled" into perceiving motion when these consecutive images are shown at a rate of 24 frames per second or faster. Where it is utilized? read less

Hi Aadesh 2D Animation is an acronym for two dimensional. Basically it refers to the creation and /or modification of moving pictures/figures on computers in a two dimensional environment using 2D bitmap and 2D vector graphics. Images can be seen from one angle at a time. Web designers use Flash for creating interactive and animated content for websites and mobile applications. Developers use flash for creating and editing action scripts using the built in coding tools, developing cross platform applications using Adobe Air, debugging and testing applications on Air enabled mobile devices, building applications which can be distributed across various App store eco systems. Animators use flash for animating characters and objects using sophisticated motion tweens, adding visual effects with various filters and blurs, creating life like environments using the various drawing tools. Graphic designers use Flash Professional to create expressive interactive content with typographic precision. Video editors use Flash Professional to create immersive experiences with live action video footage, still images, sound, and music. Interactive designers use Flash to create immersive interactive web content and experiences. Adobe After Effects, Adobe Flash Professional, Motion, Toon Boom, and Anime Studio are some of commonly used software used to create 2D animation. Thanks Digiscape Gallery read less
