If two unit vector in same direction (along),third unit vector in opposite direction situated after applying law's of vector addition along coordinate we will gate unit vector..which is result of three unit vector.NOw in second case if two unit vector is 120 degree to each other the results will be equal to unit vector after applying law's of vector addition...if u split in cordcoordi system hardly matter,no result will change...

Think of planar vectors. Say you add 3 unit vectors, each of which is perpendicular to the previous one, the resultant vector would be a unit vector. I'm talking about a system where the resultant would be the fourth side in a square. The remaining three sides would each be a unit vector Makes sense?

Just consider an unit square ABCD, where the vectors are AB,BC,CD (the direction is from the previous letter to latter); then the resultant,AD, will be another unit Vector. it doesnot change the fact, if 2 of them are along coordinate axes. Just draw a phasor diagram.
Now, to be precise, this answer assumed the back ground spacetime is flat. the diagram will be different in curved one
