First of all, the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is a standard point system used by universities. It measures a student’s workload spend on a subject or program. ECTS credits are awarded for completed studies, and universities across Europe use it. This credit system is used when a student completed a degree in one country and want to continue to study in another country.  Some of the top countries using the ECTS credit system are Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Netherlands and Spain.

There are several benefits of the ECTS credit system. Amongst all, it makes your performance much more transparent. It helps you study in a European Union country as your studies will be recognised. It simplified the overall academic paperwork.

Coming back to your question, there is no uniform credit system in India. It differs from institute to institute when it comes to converting Indian numerical marks to ECTS credits. So, you can follow this general rule to know the overall credit points assigned to get admission to a university in German.

2 years master’s degree  - 120 ECTS credit points

1 year of studies - 60 ECTS credit points

4 years bachelor program - 240 ECTS credit points

Hope this help!
