"I started as mere novice with a Sitar in my hands , not knowing how to progress in the domain , I started as an online student , wherein sir taught me from scratch about the sitar , starting from how to maintain the instrument, tuning it and about the finer calibration of the instrument. Sir started with absolute basics of the instrument and working on the scales and the entire fingerboard , with every week class , sir guided on improving the fingerwork speed and also special ornamentation like "krintan " and "meend" and "Gamak". I also attended the sirs face to face classes wherein we practiced face to face for a 10 hour long session with breaks in between. I believe both online and offline classes under sir have helped me grow as a sitar player , and I would highly recommend getting tutoring from sir. "

He is very professional and punctual in classes, and possesses deep knowledge about sitar basics required for a beginner. He explains every thing in detailed manner. I found each classes very comfortable and very easy with him. He is also supportive and patiently answers all the naive questions a beginner might have. "I had the pleasure of learning Indian classical music from Mr. Bhanu Roy, and it has been an incredible journey under his guidance. Mr. Roy is a true master of the art form, and his passion and dedication to Indian classical music are truly inspiring. It has been a year since I've been learning from him. During my initial days, I found it very difficult to match my pitch with the notes correctly. However, sir was really patient and understanding, and he provided me with different lessons and exercises to help me improve my pitch. We did "swar and aakaar abhyaas of alankaars" for that. We, then gradually shifted to the basics of raag Bilawal, raag asavari, bhairavi, jaunpuri, kafi, khamaj etc. and currently doing the compositions in each raag. One of the things I appreciate most about Mr. Roy is his deep understanding and knowledge of raagas. He has a vast repertoire of raagas and can effortlessly switch between them, bringing out their unique essence and beauty. He is also adept at teaching the intricacies of each raga, including its structure, melody, and mood, and he has a gift for explaining complex musical concepts in a simple and easy-to-understand way. Aside from his impressive musical skills, Mr. Roy is also an incredibly professional and disciplined teacher. He always comes well-prepared with lessons alongside materials (if required), and is patient and attentive throughout each session. He takes a genuine interest in his students' progress and is always willing to offer guidance and feedback. Overall, I would highly recommend Mr. Bhanu Roy as a teacher of Indian classical music. Vocal Music

"I have been taking Hindustan classical vocal classes from Bhanu Roy Sir from past 7 months. Vocals sessions with him have been really amazing and interactive. He might comes across as a strict teacher to some, but he puts a lot of effort to help us students grow. He focuses on minute details and is very understanding of what and how much to expect from a particular student. As he gives his 100% to his students, he only expects discipline and hard work. Before starting our lessons, he made an effort to understand my individual capabilities and goals rather than imposing his expectations on me. Based on my level he provided me with lessons that focused on my short comings and obstacles.The lessons and practices he made for me based on my level, helped me a lot, and i am very happy with my progress, that i made because of him. His techniques have helped me over come my problems as they are very practical and scientific in nature. He has the knowledge of traditional ways of hindi classical music and teaches them in great details. His explanation of rules of ragas and how one can understand the flow of ragas is also very in depth apart from this, his practical teachings like the vocal exercises are very interesting as they are not monotonous. His way of teaching makes one enjoy music as he himself promotes that understanding the feel of music is very important . To inspire students he himself participates with them and works with them and not just ask them to follow written notes. Apart from the singing/vocal aspect of music, his knowledge about the technicalities of music, theory of music and the history of music is immense. Any student with a teacher like him is in safe hands, the sheer amount of experience bhanu sir shares with his students is very rare. And i feel very grateful that i got the opportunity to be his student. "

Vocal Music

"I started learning Hindustani vocals from Bhanu Roy Sir an year ago. He understood my interest, direction I wanted to head in and how keen I was. He is very open minded if you wish to pursue bollywood, fusion or make a band. You need patience to excel at Hindustani Music. We were aligned from the start that we will take it slow, but would not compromise on perfection. In some early sessions I’d doubt my progress, but I always trusted sir, that I was in capable hands and he took my progress very seriously. He’d go out of the way, give extra time to correct or motivate me. 5 months were spent in learning basic notes & patterns to strengthen pitch and follow beat. Then the basics of raagas yaman, yaman kalyan, alhaiya bilawal, khamaj, bhairav and ahir bhairav and one composition in each raaga, to get the feeling of the raaga. Then dwelt deep into raaga bhairav and ahir bhairav, learning complicated taanas, using different skills to make the composition more melodious. Recently worked on recording ‘albela sajan’ along with a violin student of sir’s. The outcome feels so complicated, but with his guidance we made it happen. His mentor ship to overcome difficulties is very accurate, scientific and effective because of his immense knowledge and experience. I feel really happy looking at the progress made over the year. Listening to him sing while composing lessons for me during the class is a cherry on the top, feels like attending a live concert from a maestro. "

"I do not recommend Mr.Bhanu Roy to anyone and his way of approach is different from initial - inquiry time itself. He might be experienced but lacks patience and not suitable especially for Beginners leaner. "

Violin

"It has been almost a year since I started learning violin from Mr. Bhanu Roy. His experience and knowledge in genres of Hindustani Classical, Film Music, Carnatic Music and Western classical is exceptional. Starting from basic lessons, he has taken me step by step - from playing octaves, oscillations, chords in different time signatures, different bowing techniques ranging from tango to staccato, to compositions ranging from Indian classical - Yaman Kalyan, Tilak-Kamod, Khammaz, Rock Jog (A jazz rendition of Raga Jog), Raga Jhinjhoti, Raga Hamsdhwani along with a number of Bollywood songs inspired from these ragas, to western classical – Edelweiss, Morning Has Broken, Blue Danube Waltz, Waltz No.2 from Shostakovich, The God father theme. Attention is also drawn towards understanding the similarities and differences between the western & Indian classical. Sir is a perfectionist who has always inspired us to pay equal attention on practice and theory. Sir makes sure to focus on the style of compositions, its character and the mood and how that corresponds to playing on the instrument. He focuses on each and every note, its intonations, how it is placed within the melodic structure and how it can be played differently by applying different bowing techniques. Sir is also teaching me how to compose and how to prepare music sheet, which forms an integral part of learning music. Sir makes it an enriching experience, rendering a deeper and more profound understanding of music. "

"I joined Shri. Bhanu Roy sir in February 2018. I have been in touch with music for a very long time, and have a quite a bit of basic and amateur skills and techniques of music & beats as I was part of various bands as a vocalist earlier. I picked up Violin because I was attracted by the sound of it but sir's classes and teachings made me fall in love with the instrument. His lessons are crisp and logical which include the science of music and all the technicalities required to master on an instrument. His 60+ years of experiences is clearly visible in his classes and teachings. His lessons include various chromatic order, patterns which help us develop the fingering skills required for being an advanced Violinist. Along with that his lessons on staccato provides us understanding on how to master the bowing. His lessons on Time Signatures and their applications in Indian Ragas is one of my favourites as it develops the core of a musician. I had classes twice a week so 8 classes a month about 60-90 minutes in duration. With these types of ornaments I'm able to render few traditional world class compositions from the western musicology, such as "Blue Danube" as waltz. Beside this under Indian musicology, I learnt 2-3 Indian ragas & a miniature composition on the raga Yaman Kalyan, Tilak-Kamod, Khammaz, fusion type composition composed by Mr. Roy sir in jazz on the raga, Jog-"Rock Jog". I wish people to join sir to relish the music by having a great command on the instrument. "

"I did not enjoyed the class. I attend 7 classes and my money wasted. He is a senior and with lack of patience. I won't recommend beginner but senior student may be benefited. "

Started as Beginner. ..

"I am a 44 year old banker at Gurgaon. I always had an inner calling to learn violin for many years. I was lucky to come across Guru ji through a reference and I started my classes in October 2018 as a beginner student of violin. Being a professional in my own banking career, I was never sure of how much time I will be able to devote and also had doubts on my own ability to learn. He picked up my anxiety early in our conversations and helped me to pick up the right violin and adapted the lessons to my needs. It has been 7 months now and inspite of my demanding profession, I look forward to my weekly class and haven't missed a single class till date. He is a walking encyclopedia on music and an exceptional teacher. Every conversation with him brings you deeper into the ocean of music be it the Indian or the western shore of it. I am happy with my progress as a student and look forward to a lifelong association with Guru ji. With my experience I can say that there will be very few living legends like him who are devoted to teaching and bring out the best in their students based on their capability. "

Sitar

"I am a Music Composer/ Producer by profession and I play guitar as my primary instrument. I met Shri. Bhanu Roy on 29th Apr 2017. I was taught every detail of the Sitar including its history, make, manufacturing, maintenance, study of different parts, the way of holding the sitar in position and play-ability. I was imparted with the techniques and proper finger positions for playing sitar. Also, how to take care of my fingers so as to keep them in proper shape for better playing. I was taught the advanced techniques like - Krintan, Zham zhama, Double Zham Zhama, Mir (oscillation), Chikari (Zhaala) and Advanced bolas. These techniques are very imperative while playing the instrument. I've also been given music appreciation lessons where we discussed music by listening to works by famous composers from East and West classical genre Eg. Pt. Ravi Shankar with London Philharmonic Orchestra. Also, he has been imparting lessons to me on the Guitar (my principal instrument) in the style of Indian classical playing which in time will enhance my overall music composition skills even more. I am also a part of Shri. Bhanu Roy's "East-West" Multi Instrumental Classical Live Concert project that is in the works and will soon take place in national mega cities as well as abroad. I will be assisting him in the string Category. We are currently working on a composition in Raga Yaman Kalyan. I consider myself lucky and privileged to be Studying under the guidance of Shri. Bhanu Roy. "

Started as Beginner. ..

"I joined Sir a year ago for keyboard classes, with no background or knowledge of music. Within couple of classes I realised that I have not joined any random keyboard tutor but has joined an institute. His knowledge of music and teaching techniques ensure that one doesn't only learn an instrument but learn and understand deeper science music. In one year, he imparted lessons to train my fingers and senses which prepared me to play ragas, songs and difficult compositions (and not only melody part, but chords too). His lessons build foundation rather than simply jumping to songs etc. Learning music requires lot of patience and persistent, sir knows how to keep student motivated throughout the journey. I also want to mention one more thing about sir which is his guidance on how to practice. He has shared some very helpful tips on how to achieve best from whatever time I can devote from my busy life for practice. I believe his rich experience of 50+ years in music and his eagerness to share his knowledge makes him an extraordinary music teacher. "
