            SPEAKING

IELTS introduction questions and answers begin something like this:

  • Examiner: Hello, please take a seat.
  • Examiner: This is the speaking test for the International English Language Testing System, held on the 1st of January 2012. The candidate is Sohan Singh, candidate number 123456, and the examiner is Chitra Banerjee, number 545454.
  • Examiner: Good afternoon, my name is Chitra Banerjee.
  • Candidate: Good afternoon.
  • Examiner: Can you tell me your full name please?
  • Candidate: Yes, it is Sohan Singh.
  • Examiner: Thank you. And what should I call you?
  • Candidate: Please call me Sohan or you may call me Sunny.
  • Examiner: Where are you from Sunny?
  • Candidate: I am from Punjab, a state in India.
  • Examiner: Can I see your identification please, Sunny?
  • Candidate: Sure, here is my passport.
  • Examiner: Thank you. In this first part of the test, I am going to ask you some questions about yourself. Now Sunny,, do you work or are you a student?

     Examiner: What are you studying?

Candidate: Currently, I am pursuing my bachelor’s in economics.

The conversation then carries on between the examiner and the candidate. Candidates need to note that there are certain IELTS Speaking Part Topics and Questions that are often repeated. IELTS introduction questions tend to revolve around some common topics or themes. A candidate need not memorize all of them, however, getting a broad idea about these common topics will help you arrange your thoughts and ideas in a coherent manner.

Do you like saving money?

Yes, for me having enough money (or a little more than just enough) is a sign of a good lifestyle. And I certainly want to live a life without refusing? Myself in purchases.

Do you like shopping?

No, to be honest, I don’t. I am not a hoarder and only prefer to buy things of quality that I know I definitely need. And this, of course, happens not that frequently

Have you bought anything valuable recently?

Yes, I have. I desperately needed new headphones and I was on the lookout for a pair of wireless ones. I am glad I found them quickly.

How important is money to you?

I reckon, money is just a tool to achieve certain goals. Without it, it would be quite hard to obtain anything in life. Obviously, when talking about tangible things that can be bought.

Do you expect to have much money in the future?

Yes, definitely. I am currently working quite hard to get and retain a nicely paid job. In the future, I will for sure be able to maintain a good, if not affluent, lifestyle

Would you like to share some of your fortune when you are rich?

I think so, yes. It’s an important part of one’s charity  to help the have-nots. However, I am much more eager to help them by providing access to jobs and education than simply giving money.

Do you enjoy reading?

Yes, absolutely! I feel like reading is a perfect way to learn something new, expand our outlook and train imagination. What is more ? it’s comfortable to read almost anywhere.

What is your favourite book?

It’s definitely Atlas Shrugged, a book by Russian-American writer Ayn Rand, who built a whole anti-utopia around the lives of very strong people who overcame all difficulties to achieve more.

How much do you read every day?

I tend to read at least for an hour per day. Of course, sometimes I can spend several hours with my book, but if I am too busy to read, I just switch to podcasts.
