What is Web designing?

The term Web designing circumscribes around production and maintanance of a website. It covers different areas such as Interface design or often called as User Interface, the code which is to be included to create the interface and search engine optimisation to increase the accessibility or visibility of a website, worldwide. Now let us all keep few things in mind before actually designing and developing a website with a markup language.

1) Choosing the right domain name for your brand: It is very important to choose a correct domain name for your website that reflects your brand. Remember,the name should be spelled correctly because that increases the chance of your brand to be located on a search engine with the implementation of SEO into your website.

2) Choosing the right platform for hosting the website: Do a thorough research for all the hosting platforms that are available today. Look properly into the pricing and services they offer. Such web hosting providers also offer data storage such as SQL, MYSQL, MONGODB etc in the packages. Have a proper look into the details and find a hosting service which provides you with a most secured platform. Security plays a very crucial role in Web hosting.

3) Keep the interface simple and user friendly: It is very important for a website to look simple, clean yet very appealing. A website should clearly be talking about the company, the brand and the products. The most important of all is to avoid any broken link on the website. The website should be compatible with multiple browsers such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer. With the increase in the statistics of number of users to surf through their cell phones it has become a necessity now that a website should be a mobile responsive website making it easy for the viewers to surf the website on their cell phones. Social media pages should also be integrated with a website as it enables the user to actually promote your brand through these social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.

4) Seach Engine Optimisation: This a straight way to drive traffic to your website. One should always write an SEO-friendly code to increase the chances of a website to be tracked by the search engine crawlers and display the website on the top of the list thus increasing return on investment.

5) Blog and Testimonials: Always have an active blog on the website to update the users about upcoming products and provide information to the users about the industry. Testimonials play a very important role for the users to understand what other people actually think about your company and product thus building in confidence into the mind of a customer.

That's why starting your own website as a college student is a no brainer. When you're a college graduate, having your own website becomes your home base an online resume, a portal to “you”, and a place to showcase your work.

You might be thinking to yourself, well, I have a LinkedIn profile isn't that enough? No. It’s just a starting point.

You need a website because you need a home base for yourself. What happens if LinkedIn goes the way of MySpace? What happens if Facebook goes out of business? When you rely on other websites, you are at their mercy. If you create your own website as a college student or college graduate, you now have your own piece of the online real estate world that you can keep forever.

Here's some of the potential benefits of starting your own website:

1. You own your own brand online:

When you create your own website using your name, Google will likely rank that website as the #1 result for your name (unless you share the same name as a famous celebrity, then you might have some trouble). As such, you can control your brand online because most users will only click the first couple results and maybe they browse the first page.

Studies show that the first result in Google gets 32.5% of the click-throughs. This needs to be your own website if it's your name people are searching for. The second result only gets 17.6% and the third only gets 11.4% of the clicks. These should be your best looking social media profiles – such as LinkedIn or Twitter.

If your resume and other social profiles all align, it will make getting a new job easier even if you're getting your first job right out of college.

2. You can showcase yourself:

Your website is the true place where you can showcase yourself and what you stand for.

Think about it even if you're in college today, a good website will have:

• A picture (or multiple pictures) of you.
• A resume page.
• A place to share your accomplishments.
• Links to your other social profiles.
• A contact form.

All of these are great ways to show off what you've done. Maybe you've held several internships (show some photos of it along with what you've learned). Maybe you've volunteered and have some great experiences there. Maybe you have a side hustle that you want to highlight that shows you have an entrepreneurial spirit.

That's how you control your brand.

3. You can get a new job easier:

Since 80% of employers will Google your name, having your own website that looks great goes a long way to showing employers that you care about the work you do. With the right website, a potential employer can learn about you, see examples of your work, and really get a sense for who you are.
