It is the story of a scientific experiment they did with some frogs. It was to test their reflex reactions on heat, so they took one frog, and they have thrown it into hot water. It immediately jumped out as soon as it touched the hot water. So, then they lowered the temperature, and they have thrown him again inside, so it also immediately jumped out. So they repeated this experiment and every time they lowered the temperature of the water a little bit, so on end, the frog remained in the water.

Next part of the experiment was they put the frog in one big glass container. The water in the container was very cold, So the container had lovely green leaves, nice humidity, etc. So the frog jumped into the water and out, it was too cold, then when they increased the temperature the frog became happy Then when it was sitting in the water they increased the temperature of water and air. The frog still felt comfortable. They increased more and more so then the frog became nervous, it jumped in and out. The water and air became hotter. So the frog felt more distress and first was trying to find relief in the water and then outside on the air. So finally he was so exhausted that it just remained in the water and was cooked to death.

The moral of this story is that when Maya vigorously attacks the devotees, they react immediately, she may attack more and more. Still, the devotee can react immediately again and again. So then sometimes Maya is causing severe distress as the frog fell in the cold water and the devotee is trying to find some shelter. Maya is providing a pleasant environment for all kinds of material sense gratification.

Hmm, then we think I was fighting against Maya, so let me accept just a little bit of Maya, so that she will be happy and she will not push more, I am still a fixed up devotee, and I am still chanting, I will only watch tv, some excellent movies. Then I will also associate with some lovely people and talk about mundane topics since they are also devotees only they dont know yet. I will go to cinemas and disco, since there I can also met people for preaching, and I can still think of Krishna. When the lady sings:" I need you, I love you!" I will think she is singing this for Krishna, so no problem. I can eat some excellent vegetarian food, pizza in a restaurant or some lovely cake. I eat all the years prasadam, and I am a big devotee so I can also offer this to Krishna.

I will instead chant with taste then just 16 rounds mechanically. I will not be a beginner devotee and look at sadhana; I will start to love Krishna. I will practice spontaneous sadhana. I will read Radha Krishna's pastimes. Also here and there I can have some terrible activities since this is normal for a human.

Like this we feel very comfortable in the shelter Maya is providing. The temperature of lust, greed, material desires is increasing, and we are trying to satisfy them jumping here and there like the frog was jumping from water to the land. But the material energy is expanding her influence, and so the bewildered devotee tries to find the shelter in so many material things. Due to attachment to material things and forgetfulness of his real cover, he suffers exceedingly. Completely bewildered of his purpose of life, he starts to criticise his well-wishers his spiritual master and the Vaishnavas and the pure philosophy of Krishna Consciousness. He becomes angrier and angrier and cultivates the hatred towards those who want to help him. He rejects his guru and takes shelter of duplicity and insincere. Finally, the poor fellow finds his end cooked in the fangs of Maya in the same way the frog was cooked due to his foolishness.

Why Motivation Doesn't Work: Motivation Without Preparation is Tragedy

Manas Kumar Karn

I've nothing against motivation, but the way we're approaching it; it's just a tragedy. However, this kind of motivation works for a few people but not for everyone. In research, some scientists found that 95% of people who are getting influenced by motivational speaker, they live a more complicated life than before. There is nothing wrong with motivation or motivational speakers; it's just the way, we approach motivation or choose motivational speakers, should change.

Some factors should we change as a motivational listener or a speaker. We've to look at some fundamentals of human behaviours: mind, body, emotions, and energy. Let's have a brief look at those fundamentals-

1. Mind- It doesn't matter how much motivation you get; if your brain doesn't get the right information from you that it needs - no motivation will work for you, because we all know our mind is the powerhouse of all negative and positive feelings or thoughts. Organizing our mind should be a priority. Well, there're various ways to have a well-organized mind.

2. Body-  People say your body has nothing to do with motivation; even some of our speakers also don't talk about the body factor. Let me give you an example: let's say you want to be a great motivational speaker and have all of those qualities you need to be a motivational speaker. But you're struggling with your body; let me tell you something -  you're never going to be able to perform well as a motivational speaker. So, we should also need to take care of our bodies.

3. Emotion-  Emotionally troubled humans can't be motivated; most of the motivational speakers target our feelings. We must settle ourselves emotionally; otherwise, our compulsiveness will haunt us every time. In my opinion, we give emotion too much value, that's why we suffer.

4. Energies-  After conquering those three fundamentals; we need to manage our energy because we all know - we have a limited amount of energy and time. Energy and time management depends upon your work; well, it can be managed if you're a good manager; otherwise, you've to hire a manager for that matter. Well, your manager can help you with time management but not with the energies. You can seek some advice to manage your energy, to a motivational or spiritual speaker.

In my opinion, motivation shouldn't be your destination because it's a path that can help ourselves to achieve our goal. The smoother way you walk on, the better for you. Being motivational is not a quality but a human nature that we should work on.

Have you ever feel low about yourself? Have you ever thought that you can't do anything? As a student, have you ever feel depressed about your studies? You yes you, I 'm talking to one who currently is reading my post. Then fear not about it because you're now going to see inside your brain.
You're now going to learn what happens to you when you are sad and unhappy and depressed. Let's start our journey inside your mind. Your brain has trillions of neuron or also called as brain cells; these cells are connected via synapsis or neural links, they communicate with each other via neurotransmitter, which is of different kinds.
Now the release of these NEUROTRANSMITTER depends on YOUR MOOD, means when you are happy brain release serotonin, and when you are sad, it releases GABA or glycine. Now serotonin has a positive effect on your brain; thus, you feel motivated, whereas glycine has a negative impact, and you feel low. To keep you motivated your mind need serotonin all the time.
But where do you get serotonin from?
It is present in almond, tomatoes, spinach, turmeric, fruits etc
So start eating this thing and do regular exercise to keep your brain energetic and healthy.
Thank you!

Find out what is that you want to learn by analyzing yourself that you are naturally skilled/talented at or good.
How to find what I am good at?
1) Look back at your past and see what occasion you were being appreciated or admired by others. And that would be your area of interest, and you can improvise that skill.
2) Check back the time you spent, and you have no idea how much time is being spent. Where time does not bother, or you don't monitor time at all.
3) Separate skill with talent. Skill is what we learn and develop. Talent is what comes by birth. Either skill or talent should fetch us our livelihood.
4) Use what you have already, develop what you have already and Learn that skill which should either help you or others. If your skill has not added anything to your growth, then it's time to look for a new skill.

Preparing Online? Are you learning enough?

Civil Service is thought to be as the most responsible and coveted career option in India due to the wide spectrum of opportunities it provides for connecting with the common mass and working for them by taking small yet vital steps that encourage the society to forge ahead. Civil Service aspirants find it difficult to identify the best coaching centre in Kolkata and in most of the cases resort to online videos. There are many online videos that are freely available; and surely those are informative and knowledge imparting. But, the Civil Service Examination seeks to test the basic understanding and conceptual clarity. The mantra is to have restricted knowledge but non-exhaustive understanding.

For example, newspaper reading is crucial for preparing for the examination. But, at the same time, it is not at all required to be aware of each and every article of the newspaper. On the contrary, five important topics from the newspaper, which have mention in the syllabus, should be picked up and a complete mind-map of their origin, recent status, economic, social, environmental and political aspects should be studied and you are done with your newspaper notes.

The reasons for which classroom programmes are important for UPSC preparation are:

  • A competitive preparatory environment is necessary if you are preparing for a competitive examination
  • Classroom modules give opportunity for in-depth clarification of doubts of each and every aspirant
  • The mentors can address the universal questions as well as student-specific doubts related to a topic
  • Compulsory and regular test modules bring consistency in preparation
  • Exposure to an integrated and exhaustive preparation strategy focusing on conceptual clarity and remembering of facts and figures

Going to Delhi is not mandatory for cracking the Civil Services

It is difficult to find a good coaching centre for UPSC preparation in Kolkata mostly due to the lack of awareness among the students. It is also very disappointing to learn that students from Kolkata, at times decide to give up on their goal of their dream job of becoming and IAS or IPS officer as they are unknown of the right guidance and mentorship programme in the city and are in some or the other way could not invest in going to Delhi, which is considered as the ‘only study point for Civil Services’ on India. The need for awareness of Civil Services guidance programme in Kolkata has become all the more important in the recent times as many dedicated and determined students from the state have broken the myth that “Kolkata cannot produce Civil Servants, due to the lackluster conviction of the students”.

We, at Educrat IAS believe that anyone can crack the Civil Service Examination if his or zeal for to reach the goal is mentored in the right direction. Our mentors not only follow syllabus-based approach for imparting knowledge but also cater to the need of each and every individual student, depending upon the absorbing capacity of the student.
