Who is better - Manual Tester or Automation Tester?

Which is better Manual or Automation? If you learn automation without having knowledge of Manual, it is like jumping into the river without knowing Swimming. I would suggest it's very important to learn Manual first which is very easy to understand and then if you start learning Automation, then you can not only easily get the knowledge but also 'n' number of opportunities across the world. Hi Jyotiprakash,, First of all I would like to say you have asked a good question. There is nothing like Manual Testing is better than Automation or vice-versa. It totally depends on the project you are working on. There are different projects in which automation can be applied and that may reduce the overall cost of the project and increase the credebility of the project. On the other hand manual testing is very important in different Web based, Mobile based and native applications. Remember, you may apply automation in your project but you can not skip manual testing of the same project. This question need to be answered with one more question. Better in what we? Is it the scope u are targetting? Basically manual testing is inevtable! Not all can be automated and not all the time. Specially when we start a product we dont know most of its features, which normally evolves. So at this stage we need manual testing. Once some features are frozen and they are base features of the product which normally does not change over versions, they can be automated. Skills of automated tester is that of manual tester + framework design and scriptig using a tool like QTP. Scope wise automation testers have edge over manual testers. read less

According present market situation you have to learn both manual as well as automation testing. In automation testing there are two tools mainly used for that QTP and Selenium.So you have to learn either QTP (License One) or Selenium (Free tool).For QTP u have to know vbscript and in Selenium core java is used.One more test management tool QC (Quality Center) also you have to learn.It also better to have some knowledge in SQL and Unix command. read less

Hi, There are 2 paths infront of you. 1)Programming (Ex: .net/java) 2)Testing(Manual,Automation,Performance Testing). Now I will explain each aspect, 1)If you go to programming side there will be so much of competition , infact its not an easy thing to survive. 2)Testing A) Manual Testing: It is easy to learn , but not at all easy to get a job, why because here your domain knowledge will be taken into consideration.So much of competition will be there like if there are 5 positions then almost 150 to 200 people will come. B) Automation Testing: Here good chances to get a job, if you want to learn QTP you should be expertise in vb.net, and if you want to learn Selenium , you should be expertise in java. So I can say that it is not that easy again to get a job. Here is your best option, read the below content carefully, C) Performance Testing (Loadrunner) ( I am loadrunner Trainer) To learn the Loadrunner the prerequisite is basics of C lang like loops and conditions are enough.
