Plural for octopus is octopuses; octopi is wrong. Plural for hippopotamus is both hippopotamuses and hippopotami (last syllable pronounced as 'my'). Likewise, the plural for syllabus is both syllabuses and syllabi ( pronounced as 'sil-luh-by')
