Yes you can! If you are a beginner then do it at your own risk. It's like learning to drive on your own. This body too is a vehicle and basic learning to create the postures through this body is indispensible. But one can know the difference only when one joins classes which focus on alignment along with nuances of each posture. Quality over quantity. Once you learn the basics and you have developed the intelligence of alignment then you can drive on motorway i.e. explore the practice on your own.

You can. But without a Guru, your alignment in posture and breathing will be an issue. It will be any other exercise that you take up but not Yoga.In Yoga its not just enough that your body is flexible, but its needed that you body alignment is correct and you are not injuring yourself. 

Yoga concentrates on rhythmic breathing and you will need to follow Guru's advice on breathing as you get in and get out of posture. For the same reason its not advisable to practice without a Guru.
