Yoga with Yoga Guru Anamika

Indian yoga is the original form of yoga whereas western yoga is open to adaptation. The style of performing yoga in Indian as well as western may vary. Different types of kriyas and mudras are part of Indian yoga whereas western yoga focuses on stretching and flexibility of the body.

There is no such thing as 'Western yoga'. Yoga was originated in India. Maharishi Patanjali was the one to give us this most popular 8 limbs yoga. Where there are 8 limbs of Yoga - Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayam, Pratyahara, Dharna, Dharna (Meditation), and finally Samadhi to discipline our body-mind to reach the ultimate bliss.

West has taken parts of it and reframed it to suit the requirement and mental and physical readiness of the majority of people there.

Most of the yoga forms that have gained popularity in the west are with a lot of flow and paced fast

Like Vinyasa flows and Kundalini kriyas (taught by Yogi bhajan in the US)

Sometimes the same knowledge comes back to India in new modern Avataar as taught by the teachers over there(who originally took it from here) and known as Western yoga and primarily focus on three aspects of Yoga, i.e.n Asana, pranayama, and Meditation.

Disclaimer- This is what is about the popular western yoga as practiced by many. and not to claim that there arent any western teachers who practice all aspects of it.
