Scoring 8 or above (also known as "bands") on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a challenging but achievable goal. To achieve a high score on the IELTS, you will need to demonstrate a high level of English language proficiency across all four skills tested: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Here are some steps you can follow to prepare for the IELTS and increase your chances of scoring 8 or above:

  1. Familiarize yourself with the test format and content: The IELTS test is divided into four sections: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Make sure you understand what each section entails and how it is scored.

  2. Practice regularly: To improve your English language skills, it is important to practice regularly. This can involve activities such as reading, listening to podcasts or news programs, and writing.

  3. Seek out authentic materials: Use real-life materials such as news articles, academic texts, and transcripts of interviews or lectures to expose yourself to authentic English language usage. This will help you become more familiar with the types of texts and language you will encounter on the IELTS.

  4. Work on your weaknesses: Identify areas where you need to improve, and focus on those. For example, if you struggle with grammar, consider finding a grammar textbook or working with a tutor to help you improve.

  5. Take a practice test: To get a sense of your current level and to identify any weaknesses, take a practice IELTS test. This will give you a good idea of what to expect on test day and allow you to see where you need to improve.

  6. Get help if needed: If you are having difficulty preparing for the IELTS on your own, consider working with a tutor or enrolling in a test-preparation course. These resources can provide you with additional guidance and support to help you succeed on the IELTS.

What regime should I follow in order to score 8+ bands in IELTS?

Regime? The word itself relates to regiment and regimental and is defined or co-related to discipline. A regiment in the army is known for its discipline. That is what is needed to score Band 8  or more in all the 4 modules, namely Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening.

Divide the 4 modules into two categories. For Reading and Listening, you have to answer certain number of questions correct. 35-36 in case of Reading ( academic ) and 37-38 for general. In the case of listening, your target should be 35-36.

So, to achieve this. Do a SWOT analysis, look for your weak areas, question wise, and try and constantly improve. Both in reading and listening, certain types of questions are more difficult as compared to others, so practice and get this problem sorted out.

For speaking and writing, it’s the perception of the examiner, of course based on the candidate’s performance. Since English is not your major communicative language. Speak in English for at least 30 minutes every day, on various topics. Make it a habit to read newspapers ALOUD every day. This one habit itself is good enough to propel you towards band 8.
