There will be 2 sets of paper in UGC NET Exam, Paper I  and Paper II. Paper-I, will have generic questions, intending to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. This paper will test the reasoning ability, general awareness, divergent thinking and comprehension of the candidate.

UGC NET Eligibility

It is important for a candidate to check if he/she meets the NET eligibility criteria. Any candidate who is pursuing the Master’s degree or equivalent course, or has appeared for the qualifying master’s degree (Final year) examination and is awaiting the result, is also allowed to appear in the National Eligibility Test.

However, such students will be considered for the admission for the Award of Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor once they pass their Master’s Degree with required percentage criteria within the 2 years of NET Result declaration date. Else, they’d be disqualified for UGC NET.

Qualifying marks of an academic programme completed prior to appearing for UGC NET is another thing that also needs to be checked upon before proceeding ahead with the online application filling. Only the candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in master’s degree or equivalent examination from universities/ institutions recognised by UGC are only eligible for this test.

Candidates belonging to the Other Backward Classes(OBC) / Scheduled Caste(SC) / Scheduled Tribe(ST)/ Persons with Disability(PwD)/ Transgender category and candidates who have secured at least 50% marks in master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this test.

The upper age limit for the award of JRF is 30 years; however, there is no upper age limit for the post of Assistant Professor.
