In the given scenario, The examiner will be ignoring you and will be carrying on with the asking of questions. It is to be noted that IELTS is not a free conversation class; the questions asked here are fro reason. For example, If it is part 1 and the examiner states " Let us talk about trees" then you have to smile and talk about trees. If it is part 3, then you have to stay on the topic because the examiner may think that you are changing the direction of the conversation. After all, you might not have the vocabulary to answer that particular question, which indeed happens more than you might think. This, in turn, gets you a lower mark.
Moreover, the examiner is not allowed to change the topics of the speaking test. You can, however, have complete control to make your responses enjoyable.
For example, If the subject is parks and the examiner asks you, "Do you like parks?" you can make it an interesting question in several ways. First, you should start with the boring truth like "Yes, I love parks. They are a great way to get away from the usual scenery of city life. Etc. Start blunt end at a high note. That is the idea
